The yo-yo champions

57319508-D1C7-4CD9-8805-98500B647982

We all played yo-yo a couple of times when we were younger but after a few weeks it always ends up at the bottom of a drawer. However, some people take it to another level and become real professionals. They all meet up to compete in the same place : the world yo-yo championship organized by Steve Brown. The competitors are from all over the world : Keiran Cooper from the USA and 2018 championship finalist, Evan Nagao from Hawaii and the 2018 championship winner, Betty Galegos from Mexico that is coming into the boys category because the girl section isn't at her fit, or even Yuki Nishisako from Japan. To win this championship you need to get the most points by doing tricks, the harder the tricks are, the more points you get. Nevertheless you must be careful because if you miss the trick you lose a point. All the points are given by 4 judges and an average of their 4 scores is done. The tricks are done in a 1 minute routine and can be created in multiple ways such as meditation or with friends .

During the 2019 Championship all the champions gathered in Cleveland, Ohio. The

2014 champion Gentry Stein ended up winning the title but with only 0.3 point more than Evan Nagao.

What is cheese rolling?     Cooper's Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake is an annual event that takes place in May on Cooper's Hill in Brockworth near Cheltenham and Gloucester. Where they throw a roll of cheese down a 40% hill and people chase it down.

The cheese rapping ritual is an honour and it’s often given to the elders in the senior center. It’s a very old tradition dating back to the 1800s.

Florene early is the female champion with two victories. To hold the world record for feminine cheese rolling she needs to win one more. Unfortunately, in the last competition, she got injured herself on her right shoulder. She is not afraid to thrive again but her mother and father are sceptical and they don’t want her to have an even worse injury. She still wants to go so she asks for advice and guidance from Chris Anderson, the sixth time world champion and a veteran.

POEMS BY SECONDES BILINGUAL CLASS

Mazen Bahsoun and Kilyan Albertinoli:

Behind the mask

They were unnecessary in March

And mandatory in June

They say the truth is harsh

Did they think we were goons?

They cover our faces

Our smiles and our winces

Those masks that protect us

Are also what suffocates us

All that because of some failure

Because of some flaw

Isn't that what they call

Murphy's law?

What a strange new life!

Where breathing is a task!

What does everyone look like

Behind the mask?

George & Camille

Spring,the season of flowers

But also of the start of those disasters

Masks appeared they soon were everywhere

Remember the time they weren’t an obligation to wear?

Masks in Winter

They keep you hot

But they create humidity

And it feels like snot

Masks in Spring

Days last for hours

You can’t see people smile

And you can’t smell the flowers

Masks in Summer

Make simple things a challenge

Breathing and walking has never been so exhausting

And it’s a big bummer

Masks in Autumn

Trick or treating is not as fun

No more of those annoying allergies

Halloween is now really dumb
